This means that users can now work in teams and in parallel on projects and build and manage shared libraries. Access rights can be assigned either individually or group-specifically, which makes collaboration more flexible. 

The scope for TIA Portal and SIMATIC controllers has also been further extended. The SIMATIC S7-1500 and the SIMATIC ET 200SP now provide a higher computing and communication performance and support R1 redundancy. This ensures the maximum availability of applications and helps solve future automation challenges. The R1 redundancy can be easily and flexibly integrated into existing networks with no programming effort. This makes it one of the simplest solutions on the market that can be used in a wide variety of industries; in factory automation as well as in logistics and infrastructure, where R1 redundancy is especially relevant for large infrastructure projects. The new hardware also supports the latest security standards, and so the Version 18 of the TIA Portal will again place a strong focus on state-of-the-art security.

Siemens SINAMICS DCP Converter: “All Aboard” The Industrial Drive Train

SE Automation and Siemens are offering the SINAMICS DCP 250kW Converter. This converter is expanding the power spectrum and voltage range of the proven SINAMICS drive family with bidirectional DC-DC converters.  The new SINAMICS DCP 250 kW has a rated output of 250 kW at 1000V DC, and it is ready for immediate use without the need for additional engineering.  A power extension can also be easily implemented by connecting several SINAMICS DCPs in parallel. 

Since it is a compact device, chokes, power electronics, and control units are installed in the device.  Additionally, it has an energy efficiency of >98%. With a continuous operating voltage of up to 1200V DC, requirements for test benches in automotive technology can be covered and offers the optimal basis for the realization of test stands for electric vehicles.

SIEMENS Latest Versions of SIMATIC S7-1500 CPUs: Expanding Brain Power

SE Automation and Siemens are offering up-to-the-minute versions of CPU 1511(F)-1 PN and CPU 1513(F)-1 PN in their SIMATIC S7-1500 family of CPUs. These innovative versions significantly increase performance as the user programs are executed faster with the CPUs by up to a factor of 1.6 to 2.8.  Processing times of 25 ns for bit commands are achieved.

The performance of word, fixed-point, and floating-point arithmetic commands has also been significantly increased. Using the second processor core for communication tasks, the communication performance is appreciably enhanced, resulting in higher data throughput.  The SIMATIC S7-1500 CPUs can be relied upon to implement the most demanding concepts and reliably accompanies you on your way through digital transformation.

Guess What’s Coming: Re-Release of Sinamics S-210 Servo Drive!

SE Automation enthusiastically featured the Siemens Sinamics S210 and the 1FK2 Servomotor family of products. They perfectly pair with the S7 PLC family for smaller motion control capabilities to complete the PLC-based motion control platform. Due to the unpredictable worldwide supply chain interruptions, Siemens had to place a hold on the S210 product line. 

During this interim period, Siemens has made design modifications, as well as developed a strategy for the re-release of this product family. They also have advised that the design modifications are satisfactorily progressing. We can expect to receive a limited release of this product line in the FIRST CALENDAR QUARTER OF 2023. Components of the re-release strategy include new hardware design, firmware creation, manufacturing process, and stocking levels.

Siemens Sinamics G120XE Enclosed Drive: Fit for the Future

SE Automation and Siemens are offering the Sinamics G120XE, the newly engineered variable speed drive system. The G120XE is designed specifically for industrial pump, fan, and compressor applications. They are now available for the Frame Size G ratings of 250 HP, 300 HP, and 400 HP at 480V. The system is available in NEMA 1 and 12 configurations and UL listed to UL508A with easy setup and use of Sinamics G120XE drive.  Attention to detail is evident in the design of the drive. The enclosure ventilation fans are controlled via a relay to run only when needed.  Not only does this save energy costs, but it also reduces noise levels in the electrical room.

Depending upon power ratings, the drive enclosure is either a wall-mounted box or a free-standing enclosure. The most common standard options can be accommodated in the base enclosure. SE Automation is anxiously awaiting the release of Version 18 of the Siemens TIA Portal Suite. The planned release for this version is at the upcoming SPS (international tradeshow in Germany) in November. Those that are on current Software Update Service (SUS) contracts will receive the new version shortly after its release. 

If you are currently on an active SUS, then sit back and wait for the release.  If you are not or are not sure, please give us a call and we can help you to make sure that you are in the queue for software delivery.

SIMATIC S220: Add it to your Bag of Tricks

SE Automation and Siemens are happy to announce SIMATIC S220 Booksize Smart Line Modules. This evolutionary step from the previous SIMATIC S120 is equipped with a design necessary for upcoming applications and has increased functionality. Two Smart Line Modules will be released in this first phase, with power ranges of 16 kW and 24 kW. Each power range has type C and type D. The C type is preferred for continuous load, and in a continuous motion, can hold up to 200% overload. The D type is optimized for quick, repeatable action cycles that, in a discontinuous motion, can hold up to 300% overload.

Siemen’s Product Phase Out: SIMATIC S7-300 & ET 200M I/O

SE Automation would like to inform you that Siemens is phasing out the following components:  SIMATIC S7-300 system and ET 200M I/O system.

Product cancellation/phase-out schedule:

  1. Milestone PM400:  October 1, 2023
  2. Discontinuation PM140:  October 1, 2025

Functional replacements that will still be available consist of:

  • S7-1500 system
  • SIMATIC ET 200MP (Factory Automation) I/O system
  • SIMATIC S7-400
  • SIMATIC ET 200SP HA I/O (Process Automation) systems

Explanation of milestones during phase-out phase:

Announcement of product phase-out (PM400)

Components up to PM400 are available as new parts without restrictions. However, once PM400 is reached, the components are removed from active marketing, meaning they are no longer listed in the catalog. 

Type discontinuation (PM410)

Until the PM410 milestone is reached, the components are still available as new parts. Afterwards, they will only be available as spare parts or can be returned for repair.

Discontinuation (PM490)

Components from PM490 can no longer be ordered. From milestone PM490 onwards, only warranty cases will be handled. Replacement and repair will only be carried out within the scope of liability for defects.

Product Phase Out Notice

Dear Valued Customers & Partners:

The purpose of this notification is to inform you that Siemens is phasing out the following two soft starters:  Sirius 3RW4 and ERW/40 S6/12. These products have reliably been facilitating motor starting for approximately 20 years.  However, advanced technology in digitalization has placed more challenging demands on motor starters. 

Product cancellation/phase-out schedule:

  1. Milestone PM410:  October 1, 2022
  2. Sirius 3RW44 & Sirius 3RW40 S6/S12 + Accessories & Spare Parts:  October 1, 2022

  • Milestone PM490:  Total discontinuation is scheduled for one year later in October 2023

Important PLM Phase-Out Timeline:

  1. October 1, 2019:  Siemens transitioned the above product families to plan for obsolescence (PM400).
  2. October 1, 2022:  Siemens will transition the above part numbers to limited obsolescence (PM410); no more orders will be accepted. Siemens Order Management Team will only process orders of the discontinued parts that are “stock styles” while existing inventory is available in the Southaven Distribution Center.
  3. October 1, 2023:  All products will be moved to obsolete (PM490) unless stock is still available.

SINAMICS G120: Fitting Wide-Range of Requirements

SE Automation and Siemens are now offering the Sinamics G120 Control Unit Adapter Kit CUA20 for Motor Control Centers (MCC).  This new Adapter Kit enhances your foundation enclosure for more efficient automation.  Additional production efficiency is also gained by centralizing all critical components into a single location. 

The CUA20 Adapter Kit provides a simple alternative way to install the device in cabinets to effectively create an alternative to installing the G120 Drives. The Control Unit, normally mounted on the front of the G120 Power Module, can now be side mounted thereby permitting the G120 to fit into the MCC bucket.

In recent years, rapid technology advancements have given rise to the industrial Internet of Things. Among them are cloud computing and storage, Big Data, and advanced analytics. But what makes it all work is secure, deterministic connectivity. That’s why industrial enterprises wishing to pursue end-to-end digitalization of their operations must
consider networks to be the strategic backbones of their operations.

Without these networks, modern industrial enterprises would come to a standstill. To support users in offices and remote locations, they need to connect large, strategic assets and capabilities consisting of sophisticated information technology (IT). Among them are enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, customer relationship management (CRM) systems, big data analytics, and other core applications residing in either data centers or the cloud. Data and network security and access are paramount to
prevent hacker intrusions and compromised data integrity
and privacy.

And, to keep production running, they need to ensure the secure, interconnected operation of complex operational technology (OT) landscapes. These start at the field level, operating in real time and often in extreme environments. They include potentially thousands of sensors, actuators, valves, instrumentation, and other devices, usually from
many different vendors. That’s not to mention their constituent machinery and even conveyor systems, also from diverse sources. Meanwhile, all these components must feed and draw operational data into and from dynamic, vertical infrastructures consisting of a wide range of controllers, operator systems and manufacturing execution systems.

Unfortunately, many industrial enterprises have built their networks as components of their IT/OT infrastructure, adding networks or extending networks as needed. The result has been a patchwork of sub-optimal network segments, creating information islands that can prevent
true, end-to-end digitalization. Worse, a fragmented network topology can expose operations to security vulnerabilities that hackers can exploit to gain access to critical assets and data, both on or off the shop floor.

The vision of a self-controlling, self-optimizing, self-organizing factory has now become a fixed part of the industrial and automation worlds. Networked, intelligent systems, which control processes autonomously, are technically no longer dreams of the future. But even in the details, Industry 4.0 and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) are opening up new applications for optimizing processes. However, this requires machines and systems to be easily integrated into a common data environment.

One application that requires such integration is data-based Condition Monitoring, which allows maintenance activities to be matched to actual needs and better scheduled. The networking of data also facilitates new approaches to process optimization, such as optimizing of energy efficiency. The machines or plant sections have often already been energetically optimized. An overall view of all energy data combined with intelligent networking of the entire operation opens up further potential for recognizing and using energy intelligently. For example by intelligent load management or chaining processes with complementary energy requirements. However, modern production facilities are not yet self-organizing, but they can be organized flexibly and controlled by new, modular line concepts, in which production stages can be combined in many different ways.

Upgrade Your Communication Opportunities When You Upgrade Your Firmware

ET 200SPSiemens new V5.0.3 firmware release maximizes the communication potential for the ET 200SP. By upgrading, customers can now use this MultiFieldbus Interface Module to connect controllers using PROFINET and EtherNet/IP.

Prior to the release, applications were limited to Modbus TCP connections. These new fieldbus protocols open the door for end users who occasionally use other EtherNet-based I/O systems in addition to PROFINET.

Using the MultiFieldbus Configuration Tool, engineers can easily implement the ET 200SP Station:

  1. Configure station (configuration and parameter assignment, comparable with TIA Portal HW Config).
  2. Transfer project to device (MF-IM).
  3. Configure device in the engineering system of the Modbus TCP controller (addressing). The MFCT provides the files required
